University Center in University of Houston ... oh ... memory

Dude, I spent a lot of time at Univeristy Center of U of H 10 years ago ... time flies ....

The banner hanging around UC area are the same kind of stuff .. but at least now I see Wii night...

Game room is the same old Bowling, pool table and old arcade machine. But hey, Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Same old UC resting place.

Cougar Byte is even lamer than it used to be :-< There's basically NOTHING in the store! Or maybe they just move stuff inside when they are closed.

From inside Business school building of University of Houston

**ck! Don't have we enough StarBuck Already?

Everywhere is notebook computer friendly.

They try to make school like a giant coffee shop, which is actually awesome.

Dude, the WallStreet like design.

Pretty nice I would say.

Asus EeePC 900, the first day

Asus EeePC 900 is very usable machine with this kind of price point and this kind of functionality. Over all I am impressed with this device. It will definitely be part of my daily carry around device list.

Still, now that I used both, I still find iPod Touch a more superior mobile device to carry around. The touch interface really makes my life easier. I tried using Touch as a note take, which works great as long as I am only focus on taking a few quick notes. Seriously, I won't read those notes again in my life unless it's just something quick and simply :- >

Also I need to decide whether I should keep using the Linux OS or switch to Windows XP on that NetBook. Linux works so far on the first day when I use it really purely as a Netbook. I used it to take notes, create blogs, see photos, watch movie (I used it to watched the movie W last night) and they all worked pretty OK. But sure it would be more amazing if I can use the application that I am familiar with in Windows environment.

See, the OS environment is actually nothing. The real issue is the APPs that I can run on the top of it.

Battery is not something amazing. It survive a complete movie, but don't have much juice left. It also does not recognize the Logitech USB Speaker that I connected to it. Hmmm :-m .

Wow, UH Business school facility improved like ... a lot

I am still at UH Business school, updating my blog. But man, the facilities here really updated a lot. For one everywhere is WiFi enabled. There are tons of place that you can just sit there, plug in your power adapter, and start working or playing with a your laptop. In fact, with this kind of setting, I would argue that having a laptop is a MUST HAVE in order to survive your college life. No way people will still do their work in the computer lab. The whole set up around here implies that your laptop is your lap, and you just do your work whenever you go.

And that CNN studio like kindof entrance was also pretty crazy. We didn't have that sort of glamorous stuff back when I was a student here.

Photos of my new Eee PC

Darn it, loading these photos at UH business school takes a lot of time. But on the bright, it worked.

Dude, I won a Netbook!

I went to the Houston TechFest 2009 today and I had a great attending various sessions and learned tons of stuffs. But then there's one more that is kind of like the icing on a cake: I won a Eee PC 900 Netbook during the ruffle at the end of the session!

I was so excited that I went to the business school of U of H (yes, the TechFest was held in U of H, my mother college), found a power socket, and started setting up the Netbook so that I could use it right away. In fact, you are looking at the post that I generated using this Netbook. Pretty awesome!

Loud

I was shocked when Yenn knocked my door at around 1:45 a.m.. I woke up at 12:00 a.m. after sleeping for 4 hours, feeling pretty awake, so I started working on stuff. While I am working, I turned on a podcast to entertain myself.

Then at around 1:45 a.m., Yenn knocked my door and told me that the audio was too loud. So I turned off my podcast playback.

A few things:
  • I don't think I played the audio in particularly high volumn, but then, maybe my hearing is getting worse these days.
  • I usually play video with that same kind of volume since I stared living with Yenn, and I asked him several times whether it was too loud. He never complained.
  • He had his door closed and I also had my door closed. I am pretty surprise that the volume of the podcast was loud enough to go through 2 doors.
  • On the other head, the actually distance between his bed and my speaker is like 2 feet away, and they were only separated by a wall. And you know how thick walls are in house made in United States of America.
Yenn and I wasn't talking much these days. I hope he's not getting passive agressive about something that he has problem with about me.

Or maybe it's time to think about getting my own apartment. But living in apartment still doesn't solve my problem since I enjoy working at night so much and those flimsy apartment won't keep me from annoying my neighborhood. Maybe time to buy a house, especially when the price is low during the economic downtime?

Or maybe I should invest some money on a Wireless Bluetooth headset. (See I always think that technology can help solving all kinds of problem.

Damn IRS

I dialed 9-1-801-620-7116 for tons of times trying to get my form faxed to IRS. It worked only AFTER the office hour, like around 5:30 pm. What the hell.

Learning a few about daily life today

I am a geek ... ok, nerd. So a lot of stuff that other regular people take for granted, I actually have to learn. In fact I learned a few things today:
  • Walmart closes at 10 pm on Sunday. This is awesome before most of the other stores close at 6 pm on Sunday.
  • My bed is in Full Size. I learned that there are 4 kinds of bed size: twin, full, queen, king.
  • In a Fitted sheet set, there are multiple item, and all I really need is the Fitted Sheet. I brought a complete set which also included cover for pillow and a flat sheet, which were something I didn't want. I returned the set and brought just the Fitted Sheet.
  • Walmart's return policy is awesome. People, please don't abuse it.

New Pespi logo and packaging

By not working network TV or newspaper or even ad on web page (thanks to Ad Block Plus plugin for Firefox) , I successfully isolated myself from all the ad. That also keep me from the fun of finding new product packaging until seeing it on the street. Like this morning I went to supermarket and found that Pepsi changes it's logo. So I brought a box.

Yeah, I knew the taste probably didn't change. And sure enough it's the same old Pepsi, but it's still fun to get it, take a photo and put in my blog.
