Converting FLV to AVI or MPEG

I recently take up a task to edit some video.  Video editing itself isn't something that I worry about, but usually it's the video source that got me into trouble.  More than option I will get some low quality video, and was asked to "do the magic".  This time it's even worse.  I got a bunch of like for some flash videos, and was asked to use them to crack out something.

I went through the trouble of extracting those videos from the according web sites, and the extracted videos are either in flv or mp4 format.  I am OK with the mp4 format as all my professional video editing program has no problem recognizing them.  Flv files, on the other hand, can't be read by most of these applications.

After some research, I finally found this Pazera Free FLV to AVI Converter, which does exactly what I want: converting flv files into avi or mpeg format.

Now that the technical hurdle has been overcome, it's time to do the artistic part: actually editing the video with music.
