PlayStation 3 wouldn't suck if I don't have internet

After having PlayStation 3 for about a week, I found out that every single game I popped into it, there's always online update required.  I am not talking about some 20Mb here and there.  I am talking about hard core 1.3Gb update here and there.  In fact, even some PS3 demos I downloaded required update.  So now I am kind of expected that everytime I pop in a new game the first time, I will not be able to play it until 1 to 2 hours later.  (Did I mention that my home broadband connect is kind of lame?)
