I just went to Apple Store and tried out iPhone 3G. I am so glad that I didn't get it because otherwise I would be very pissed. iPhone 3G, or firmware 2.0 to be specific, failed me on a super major area: Chinese handwriting recognition. The speed and performance of firmware 2.0 was just terrible. It's impossible to write notes in Chinese with that kind of recognition ability. If I brought the phone or iPod Touch I would be totally ranting day after day after day. Thank You Apple store for allowing me to try the phone before I , errr, refund it.
In that sense, my Pocket PC does a much better job on handwriting recognition both in English and in Chinese. That's why I have such a love hate relationship with this PDA.
